ABOUT THE WORK

A deep bloom of magenta and rose burns at the horizon like light held in glass, sinking into layers of teal, moss and jade that fold across the canvas like water at dusk. Below, the surface turns pale and reflective, catching flecks of yellow and blue as if the last light of the lantern is scattering across the tide.

The Lantern sits within my ongoing exploration of the Australian landscape as something felt rather than depicted — colour built in loose, glowing layers, where land, water and light dissolve into one another. There's a quiet drama to this one: a single warm note held inside a cool, watery world.
